What hosting review sites aren’t telling you

May 13, 2014

Searching for a web hosting company is a daunting task. You will undoubtedly be using web hosting review websites to guide you in the right direction. After all, they extensively test web hosts to let you know which ones are the best, right? Most of the times that isn’t right at all.

You see, web hosting reviews are often written with one goal in mind. That goal is for the owner of that website to make as much money as possible. What the review website won’t tell you is that they make a commission for every referral they send to the web host. Naturally, they put the host that is willing to pay them the most at the top of their rankings.

What they also won’t tell you is where they host their own website. You would be surprised at how many web hosting review sites aren’t actually hosted on the host they rank as their best. Why? Because usually the host that is ranked the best isn’t actually the best, they just pay the most in commissions.

Unfortunately for the customer, this is the nature of web hosting reviews. It is a business that almost as large as web hosting itself. Just something to keep in mind when you are searching.
